Wedding Tintype
Wedding Tintypes are a one of a kind keepsake! A tangible memory of your special day preserved for decades to come.
A tintype portrait adds timeless, tactile charm to your wedding day. It’s an instant heirloom your guests can watch and experience, or something you and your partner can experience for yourself alone. Unlike digital photos, tintypes are handcrafted metal prints made with the wet-plate collodion technique that produce rich, high-contrast images with unique imperfections and depth. They feel personal and cinematic, and they make unforgettable keepsakes.
Why choose a tintype for your wedding
One-of-a-kind keepsakes: Each tintype is a singular physical object; no two are identical.
Instant, tangible results: Guests leave with a finished portrait from your event.
Vintage aesthetic: The distinct look of tintypes are deep blacks, luminous highlights, and subtle artifacts that complement both formal and rustic weddings.
Interactive experience: The process is a memorable, performative moment for guests and often drawing a crowd.
Longevity: Properly processed and stored, tintypes can last for generations.
How it works at your wedding
Pre-event planning: Discuss style (posed portraits, candid moments, props), timing, and placement with your tintype artist. Reserve a spot with enough shade or controlled light. I will work with your photographer to make sure everything goes smoothly!
Studio setup: I must have my portable darkroom on site and a small workspace. The setup is usually compact and can be placed near reception areas for visibility, or somewhere it can’t be seen if necessary.
Shooting: Guests are seated or posed briefly while the artist prepares the plate, exposes the image, and develops the metal plate on-site. The whole interaction typically takes 10–15 minutes per portrait.
Finishing: After developing, the image is rinsed and sometimes varnished for protection. You can see the process and experience the plate being made, but I do have to take it home to scan and varnish!
